ABOUT

Rowan Lane is the bassist for Australian superstar Guy Sebastian, and has worked with The Wiggles, Axle Whitehead, Delta Goodrem, Stan Walker, The Mighty Reapers, The Foreday Riders and others.

Rowan began gigging during high school around the inner-city Sydney area of Balmain, then the home of the Sydney rhythm and blues and soul scene. Having learned his trade performing with a number of legendary Australian blues acts including The Mighty Reapers and The Foreday Riders, he went on to co-found underground soul/roots band Papa Lips along with now US- based solo artists Mitch and Kara Grainger, Hammond organ virtuosi Clayton and Lachlan Doley (Powderfinger, Jimmy Barnes, Tower of Power, Harry Manx) and Australia’s funkiest drummer, Declan Kelly. After three albums and six years as one of the hardest working touring bands in Australia, Papa Lips went into hiatus, and Rowan has gone on to perform and record with a myriad of local and international artists across Australia and around the world.

Rowan is currently the bass player for multi-million-selling artist Guy Sebastian. Guy has just launched his greatest hits album, featuring the #1 single ‘Who’s That Girl’ (a duet with U.S. superstar EVE) and recently toured Australia and New Zealand with music legend Lionel Richie. Rowan began playing with Guy at the end of 2008, hot on the heels of bass legend Donald “Duck” Dunn who had just completed Guy’s “Memphis Album Tour” along with fellow Booker T bandmate Steve Cropper. Guy has released six top-ten (multi-platinum) albums, four #1 singles, seven top-ten singles, received ten Aria nominations, and in 2010 received the award for highest selling Australian single of the decade. He is currently making a push into the American market and was recently featured in a hugely well-received live recording for The Oprah Winfrey Show.

Rowan has also recorded extensively with international children’s music superstars The Wiggles. The group has earned seventeen gold, twelve platinum, three double-platinum, and ten multi-platinum awards for sales of over 17 million DVDs and four million CDs. The Wiggles have performed everywhere from Madison Square Garden (including a 12-show sold-out run) to Disneyland and all the major arenas across the U.S., and their music has been featured in a number of major TV and movie releases including the Seth Rogen/Katherine Heigl comedy “Knocked Up.” Rowan has also recorded and performed live with chief Wiggles songwriter, John Field, for many years and is featured on John’s new children’s project “The Outback Aussie Show.” He has also recently been playing live with ‘Yellow Wiggle’ Sam Moran for his solo shows in support of his debut album “The Colour of Love.”

Other artists Rowan has worked with: Axle Whitehead (current star of the long-running, internationally successful TV drama "Home and Away"); Delta Goodrem (one of Australia’s most successful female recording artists); Stan Walker (winner of Australian Idol 2009, has released 2 platinum albums (in Australia and NZ), 3 top ten singles. Rowan recently performed with Stan at the all-star charity event for The Sony Foundation as well as on the channel 7 TV show X-Factor);
Paulini, Jackie Orszaczky, Corrina Steel, Cassie Davis and others. Rowan has also performed as a bassist for international touring acts Sleepy La Beef, Chris Cain, Eugene “Hideaway” Bridges, and Jimmy “Fast Fingers” Dawkins.

Festival appearances: Rowan has performed at most of Australia’s largest music festivals including: ten times at The East Coast Blues and roots festival (Australia’s largest blues/roots music festival, with over 100,000 attendees a year), five times at Woodford Folk Festival (Australia’s largest World music festival), Gympie Muster (Australia’s largest country music festival), The Great Southern Blues Festival, Thredbo Blues Festival, The Big Day Out (Australia’s biggest international music festival), Homebake, and A Day on the Green.

TV Appearances: Rowan has performed on numerous TV shows including: 2010 ARIA awards finale, The Oprah Winfrey Show, Australian Idol, X Factor, 2009 Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards finale (Along with Delta Goodrem and Good Charlotte), Sunrise, The Today Show, Hey Hey It’s Saturday, The Hamish and Andy Show, and Live at The Basement.

Rowan has toured all over Australia as well as in the US, Canada, Europe, Japan, China, Singapore and New Zealand. He recently toured with US bluesman Eugene ‘Hideaway’ Bridges in support of BB King on his Australasian tour.

Rowan says: “"The combination of power, portability and tone makes Markbass the complete package, from club to stadium and everything in between."
