Born in Istanbul on February 1987, Mehmet Özen began his musical career playing classical guitar. He was accepted into Bursa Anatolian Fine Arts High School in 2001. He studied violin and piano in high school. Graduating in 2005, Özen was accepted into the Jazz-Bass Guitar Department at Yıldız Technical University’s Faculty of Art and Design, where he began his jazz education. Graduating in 2010, Özen has performed and recorded albums for numerous pop, jazz, rock, arabesque, Turkish classical music, and folk song artists. In 2016, he recorded two albums with the Funkbook project.
He has performed and continues to perform at many important jazz festivals in Turkey and abroad. During this time, he has collaborated with Fettah Can, Demet Akalın, Bengü, Murat Boz, Ziynet Sali, Atiye, Aleyna Tilki, Ersay Uner, Emir Ersoy, Bahadır Tatlıöz, Ebru Gündeş, Feride Hilal Akın, Koray Avcı, Merve Özbey, Nawal El Kuwaiti, Vassilis Saleas, Selim Sesler, and Hüsnü Şenlendirici. He has released albums and performed with İsmail Tuncbilek. Since 2020, he has focused on studio work with Akustikhane Records, focusing on advertising and finding new artists. In 2024, he founded his own label, MnM Music Company. He works in film, commercials, and production.
In 2024, his new quartet group, Homelan, released their project album.
He is currently the stage director and bass guitarist for Turkish singer Melek Mosso, and also actively performs as bass guitarist in concerts by Gülşen and Serkan Çağrı.
